Select Displayed Cells for Copying

How to copy only the visible cells in a filtered Excel range, skipping hidden rows.

When you filter a dataset and then copy the visible rows, Excel by default also copies the hidden rows. To copy only the displayed cells, use the Go To Special command to select visible cells only first.

This same technique works for avoiding copying hidden columns or rows even when no filter is active.

Steps

Step 1: Filter your data as needed, then highlight the range you want to copy.

Step 2: Open Go To Special using one of these methods:

  • Click Find & Select in the Home ribbon → Go To Special
  • Press CTRL+G → click the Special button
  • Press F5 → click the Special button

Step 3: In the Go To Special dialog, select Visible cells only and click OK.

Step 4: Now only the visible cells are selected. Use CTRL+C to copy, then paste normally in your destination.

The selection will skip all hidden rows, so only the filtered data is copied.
